Something that my school does, that other schools probs do idek, is called guidance. It's basically just form but a little bit
longer and we're meant to do things and I didn't stop going to form for three
weeks. Fun times!
So what other guidance classes have been doing is preparing
everyone for a fun debate within the class. Mostly to see who they should send
on to a competition between schools from the Outwood chain. What could possibly
go wrong in a school where some of the students genuinely support Trump and
UKIPThis is the part where I laugh hysterically with a pained expression.
Anyway, a lot of classes decided to pick controversial
things; e.g. the Muslim ban, pineapple on pizza, how many genders there are.
Bearing in mind, the class who debated the Muslim ban was mostly white with one Muslim girl. Which is
always going to be interesting. And by interesting, I mean awful. I mean, it's
a totally fair fight when it's one girl vs a bunch of Islamophobes.
In the class who was doing "there
are only two genders", it's a white girl vs a group of mostly white guys. Woo. But this group have
decided to take it further and purposely wind her up out of the lesson to the
point that they're following her around school
and coming up to her at lunch and during her frees.
Which is basically low-key harassment.
It's also annoying because I'm her friend so I get asked about it as well. Like
I came here to do binomial expansions, not talk about how other people's gender
identity doesn't affect you.
Their arguments a bit weak anyway because it's based on the concept that sex=gender.
I currently don't know what's going on with it. My friend
reported it to her form tutor; I think she has tried to change classes' topics.
Which probs isn't the best road because stopping them from debating it isn't
going to stop them trying to wind people up. But yeah. She tried.
What my main problem with this is, other than the
harassment, is that it's part of the
culture of having (political) opinions just to piss people off. Sort of the
whole calling people who don't like Agent Orange "snowflakes". You
think Trump is dangerous, then you're a "snowflake". It's not really
a valid opinion, it's just pathetic name calling culture.
One of the main figureheads
of this "movement" is Toyota Lasagne. She basically has the most
flawed logic to her opinions and just calls everyone "snowflakes".
She says that Murica is great because of
free speech and then berates Colin Kaepernick for sitting during the national
anthem; an example of someone using free speech to protest the treatment of
black people in America. Tammy thanked Lady Gaga for not making her Superbowl
performance political, but then praised an unknown for wearing a dress with
Wotsit face's stolen catchphrase on it in the same month. She also regularly
complains about millennials... she's twenty-four.
So, not only is Tonia a hypocrite, she's also very confused. In a somehow manageable conclusion, you can't be expected to be taken seriously if your political opinions are solely based on being a dick to other people, especially if those people are a minority.
