Satan Reviews- Books: Splintered

Splintered

A.G. Howard

Revelen Press

Warnings: Spoilers and the lot

This book makes you want to hit your head against a wall.

Splintered basically mocks those with severe mental health problems and those who's profession it is to help them. Alyssa's mum pretended to be 'insane' to protect her daughter. I still question how that helped at all because all it seemed to do was put Alyssa through pain and unnecessary hardship. The only nurse mentioned is an over-used (untrue) stereotype for people in the medical profession found in novels- syringe-happy, overly happy, wouldn't actually have a job in the medical profession in real life- and she carries a full syringe around with her. The possibility of air bubbles created from the movement would kill anyone injected- just saying. Also, couldn't she accidentally stab herself if she fell? She accidentally drugs herself at the end because she keeps her keys in the same pocket as the syringe???.

Also all of the females that we know of in Alyssa's family name's start with A. Alyssa, Alison, Alicia and Alice. Really??? Would children really make fun of you if they knew you were a descendent of the Alice? Well, in the end she was technically the descendent of Queen Red because Alice was technically stuck in Wonderland while Red was in her body. So, really, she was actually the descendent of Alice as it was Alice's body, therefore her DNA, not Red's. But who cares how biology works? Tbh, wouldn't they think that it was cool?
This brings me onto Alyssa's relationships with all the other female characters in this book. She has no lasting positive relationship in this book.

Her mum: *stares into the distance because it's easier than going through that crap again*

Taelor: Who even spells Taylor like that? Even the spell check on Goodreads disagrees with it. She's the bimbo who stands in the way of protagonist's and their love interest's romance and is treated like crap, but never as bad as the way the protagonist treats them. Alyssa steals Taelor's money and her boyfriend, looks down on her, picks on Taelor's insecurities. We get it. Taelor's a bit bitchy because daddy doesn't love her and her mum isn't even mentioned in this novel. But that doesn't mean Alyssa gets away with also being a bitch.

Her best friend: Erm... yeah... well...

Alyssa's romance with Jeb annoyed me. He treats her like a child and sees her virginity as a major part of her... Which makes you think he left Tae 'cause he probs had sex with her and has some weird virginity fetish. Or it doesn't, but now you have that idea in your head. He makes major decisions about her life note: the London thing that they never shut up about even though he's a year a two older than her. Jeb is also very short tempered and basically attacks Morpheus in every chapter often over nothing.

And Morpheus was just a dick head- literally no other way of wording it.

Good things about this book: The cover.

The End.

I gave this book 1 out of five stars.
