The Sin Eater's Daughter
Melinda Salisbury
Scholastic Press
Warnings: Lots of swears and spoilers.
I actually had to discuss with my mum how many stars to give this. Some of the book I didn't like and other bits were okay, but my hatred of everything and pernickety nature won overall.
Warning: Sarcasm, spoilers (so I wouldn't read this review unless you've read the book, don't care about spoilers or you're not planning on reading the book), question marks, swearing (probably), very little structure and the phrase 'to be honest'.
This wasn't a pile of shit, let's put it that way. It did have potential and if there's a sequel, I might read it; Salisbury shouldn't stop writing because at least she has the knowledge that her book was better than Fallen
Where was the plot for like 70% of the book???
Because anything
That's right, a fucking bee sting.
And the queen thought it best for her to stay in her room
This gives her chance to get to know her new guard, Lief, who is Tregellian- the
So he wasn't suspicious,
at all.
And of course they fell in
And because of teenager's 'uncontrollable hormones'
Then because of these teenager's hormones we find out that Twylla's skin wasn't poisoned at all! This is where it really started going downhill. I was going along with the pathetic love story because it was forbidden in an interesting sense- they physically couldn't touch each other. But when you find out that they can touch each other, the fun is gone and the love story has become so fucking boring. Mostly because, it's like every ya romance= pathetic and unrealistic.
While this is going on Merek is trying to pull Twylla. He fails miserably. To be honest, he just annoys me. He's kinda wet and like a mummy's boy who's trying not to be a mummy's boy. Because she is a slightly scary
At some point during all of this Dorin dies from his bee sting
We mustn't forget about Twylla's mum, the Sin Eater (hence the title) and her sister Maryl because Twylla won't let you. She droned on and on about them even when it turned out that Maryl was dead and had been for two years at which point Merek acted like a dick.
Why were most of the women in Twylla's life evil??? The queen (obvs), her mum, some of the ladies of the court and Twylla tried to make poor Dimia look bad. The poor girl did nothing wrong!
'She's very pretty. I don't like her.'That's not pathetic at all... Jesus Christ.
By the end, I was so desperate for some sort of decent plot twist. Admittedly a plot twist happened. Kinda. I guess. Eh. But it was stupid and made me want to gauge my own eyes out.
I gave this book 1 out of 5 stars.
{Apparently, I missed posting this review when I started this blog. Hey, it's here now.}
